This book is a living testament to this vision.' PROFESSOR KHURSHID AHMAD `At the dawn of the twenty-first century, the relationship of Islam to other faiths has never been more important. Globalization and significant presence and force of Islam in the Muslim World and the West make civilizational dialogue an imperative. Ismail al-Farugi provides a model to be emulated.' PROFESSOR JOHN ESPOSITO [From the Foreword of this book] ISMAIL RAJI AL-FARUQI (1921-86) taught at the Universities of Chicago and Syracuse. Until his tragic death he was a Professor in the Department of Religion at Temple University. His publications include Urubah and Religion (Amsterdam: Djambatan,1962); Christian Ethics: A Historical and Systematic Analysis of Its Dominant Ideas (Montreal: McGill University Press, 1967); The Great Asian Religions (New York: Macmillan, 1969); Historical Atlas of the Religions of the World (New York: Macmillan, 1975); The Cultural Atlas of Islam (New York: Macmillan, 1986). Collected in this volume are Ismail al-Faruqi's articles written over a span of two decades, which deal directly with Islam and other faiths, and Christianity and Judaism in particular. The book provides a good cross-section of al-Faruqi's contribution to the study of comparative religion and covers a wide spectrum of inter-religious issues including commonality and differences between Islam, Christianity and Judaism, Muslim-non-Muslim relations, and the issue of Mission and Da'wah. It is a fascinating study by an engaging and challenging scholar and activist of our time.
